Training Day: 6

Back in Athlone, day 6 of the MELISSA training. It was a fruitful session once again. Teachers were a bit held up by a meeting at the start, but we made up for it in no time. I decided to recap on a little MS Word, which is always a useful piece of software. It is arguably one of the most important software packages that teachers use (daily). We took it from the ultimate start, learning teachers how to format text, undo/redo, and insert pictures, etc. Teachers seemed to enjoy it a lot and even congratulated us at the end of the session. One teacher said she was very very afraid of the training, but, seeing that we were patient and helpful, started to relax and enjoy it. This is always good news - most of our participants are solid digital immigrants, and so we encourage slow-paced learning.

My only concern here is that we do not have a lot of time this quarter, and I have to move on to Internet training quite soon. But this is always the paradoxical twist in teacher training: logistics and educational priorities often make full-fledged, intensive training impossible. And yet, such training is imperative to skills development, which will hopefully lead to better equipped educators in the future. Let's see what happens!
